A grid, a framework of parallel lines, is one way many artists have ordered the apparent chaos of abstraction. The success of a grid depends on the relationship of the background and the grid lines.

Sometimes a painting, such as "Tree Leaves," can fit in more than one category (Marks or Grids). I have arbitrarily placed it in the Marks section, rather than list it twice.
